Taketomi Island, Japan.
Taketomi Island is known for its traditional Ryukyuan houses, stone walls and sandy streets.

"Asadoya Yunta" is a song that originated on Taketomi Island, Japan. It is a very popular song, singing about a beautiful lady, "Asadoya nu Kuyama" who was brave enough to reject the wedding proposal from a government official. The Japanese government came to the Ryukyu Islands and ruled the area, so the song has somewhat of an anti-government theme.
Asadoya nu Kuyama's house is one of the tourist attractions on Taketomi Island. If you are on a water buffalo ride, the Ojii will probably play sanshin and sing this song.

On YouTube you can find various interpretations of Asadoya Yunta:
- An instrumental version by BEGIN (an excellent band from Ishigaki).
- Ryuichi Sakamoto's version is probably the most popular version.
- Okinawa's coi-na's version isn't half bad either.
